Jun 15, 2013 · I purchased my 1.6 VTR+ HDI 2 years ago with 21,000 on the clock. I did notice a very slight whine between 34 and 40 mph. No-one else can hear it but me and there's been no change in the noise level after 8,000 miles. If a gearbox bearing was on the way out wouldn't it have got louder by now. Motorway speeds are fine.
